The track pyramid illustrates the approximate age group and level for the various tracks. It should be seen as a guide and is not written in stone. If you are not sure which track to choose after you have gone through the repertoire and read the different track pages, contact us at sidebyside@gso.se and we will help you!
There are five factors that determine which track you should apply for on Side by Side.
Use the track pyramid to get a quick overview of the age and level of the different tracks. It is important that you talk to your instrument teacher/choir conductor about the repertoire to decide which track is right for you. More detailed information and repertoire can be found on the respective track page.
The track guidance icons on the track pages also help identify the right track for you. Read more about those further down this page.
The function tracks are for you who have some type of function variation and need extra support. OPEN ORCHESTRA plays together with BASIC ORCHESTRA.
In the orchestral tracks on Side by Side, you play orchestral instruments in an orchestra.
The specialty tracks are for you who have a special interest in early music or folk music. Here, the choice of instruments is more free and the tracks also include singing.
The choral tracks are purely vocal tracks where you sing in a choir and, depending on the level, also in parts.
TRACK GUIDE
In order for you to quickly get an overview of who can apply for the various tracks, we have produced a series of icons that describe who can join.

Welcome to Side by Side 2023!
APPLICATION AND ADMISSION 2022
There is a limited number of slots for each track and each instrument. Therefore, everyone who wants to participate must submit an application. We do not use the "first-come-first-served" principle, but go through all the applications individually and distribute the slots as evenly and fairly as possible. The first selection is made among those who applied by 14 December 2021. That means that those who submit their applications early have the greatest chance of getting their chosen camp track.
As far as possible, we want to offer slots to all members who are part of an existing ensemble / orchestra / choir. Therefore, we prefer that all those who want to participate in the camp as a group make a joint application.
About your application
Everyone can only apply for one track, so it is important to think through the track selection. Information about each track and a link to the application form can be found on the different track pages.
It costs nothing to apply and the application is not binding. Participating in Side by Side costs SEK 450 / participant on all tracks except OPEN CHOIR, BEGINNERS 'ORCHESTRA and BEGINNERS' CHOIR which cost SEK 200.
Those who are offered a place at Side by Side will have to supplement their application with some additional information as they accept. This includes contact information for each participant, any special diet and payment information, as well as the names of any accompanying adults.
Before you apply, you must read our TERMS & CONDITIONS.
Also read our PERSONAL DATA POLICY.
If you have any questions, want to change anything or withdraw your application, email sidebyside@gso.se
For most of the tracks, it is possible to make a joint application for several participants from the same School of the Arts, orchestra or choir. The information and admission notice for the whole group is then sent to the person responsible for the group application. It is possible to make an application for 30 participants in the same form. If there are more people in the same group, you can submit two applications to the same track. Indicate yourself as responsible for both applications.
If you have students at several levels and want to participate with one group in, for example, BASIC ORCHESTRA and another in CHILDREN’S CHOIR, you must submit two different applications.
If you, as an orchestra leader, educator or choir leader, do not yet know exactly which participants are to be included in the application, it is possible to enter Student 1, Student 2, etc. as their names. However, it is very important that the number of people per instrument or part is correct. Complete details for all participants must be submitted when you accept the offered slots.
You do not have to state the names of the accompanying adults in the application, these are added when you accept the offered slots. Remember that you need enough adults on-site to take care of your group during the whole camp, for example during transfers, meals and before and after rehearsals. If you plan to live at Side by Side's accommodation, it is important that the number of people, including accompanying adults, is stated in the application. If you do not plan to stay at the accommodation, enter 0 as the number.
Submitting an individual application
For some of the tracks for older participants (ADVANCED ORCHESTRA, PRE-ADVANCED ORCHESTRA, FOLK MUSIC and YOUTH CHOIR) it is only possible to submit an individual application.
If you are 16 years or older, you can apply on your own and enter your own email address. If you are younger, we want you to make the application together with an adult and have the e-mail address go to an adult who is responsible for the application. It is to this e-mail address that the admission notice and information will be sent. Other information in the application applies to the playing / singing participant. Information about any accompanying adult should be stated when you accept an offered slot.
It is possible to submit an individual application for other tracks as well, but it is important that you who belong to a group first ask your teacher / leader if the group will make a joint application before your proceed on your own. If you are participating as a group, submitting a group application is best.
Parents/legal guardians applying on behalf of charge(s)
It is important that you talk to their instrument teacher, orchestra leader or choir leader before applying for your child. For one thing, it is beneficial for the teacher to be involved in choosing the track so that the level is right, and for another, it is important that you know if any group your child is a part of will submit a joint application.
If your child plays or sings in a group that plans to come to Side by Side together, we want the group to make a joint application. That way, we can try to make room for everyone who belongs to the group.
As an adult, you are responsible for the application and should submit your own email address. It is to this email address the admission notice and information will be sent. Other information in the application applies to the playing / singing participants. Information about any accompanying adult should be stated when you accept an offered place at camp. Keep in mind that everyone under the age of 13 must have an adult they know on site..
HOW TO APPLY FOR SIDE BY SIDE 2022
Some tracks require additional information:
The participation fee is 450 SEK (inc. VAT 25%) for all tracks except BEGINNERS’ ORCHESTRA, BEGINNERS’ CHOIR and OPEN CHOIR which are 200 SEK (inc. VAT 25%). The participation fee is due on accept after having been offered slot at camp. It will be refunded if participation is canceled by May 5. The participation fee is the same for all participants, including accompanying adults. Camp accommodation for those who require it is an additional 100 SEK (inc. VAT 12%) per person and night. All fees will be refunded if we as organizers should need to cancel the Side by Side camp.
Side by Side is a camp in the middle of Gothenburg and this means that the participants have to move between different locations around the Concert Hall in a busy city environment. All participants under the age of 13 must have an accompanying adult that they know on site at the camp, someone who is on hand all day and takes responsibility for the child, especially during transfers, meals and activities in addition to the rehearsals. This can be the group leader, an accompanying parent or another adult. Children in different tracks have different schedules and rehearse in different rooms, so it is important to think about having a sufficient number of adults with you. To be allowed to stay overnight at Side by Side's accommodation, you must be 13 years old or accompanied by an adult.
Accompanying adults do not need to apply for a track. On the acceptance form for playing / singing participants, information can be added for all accompanying adults.
For children under 13 who want to participate in INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA, BASIC ORCHESTRA, PRE-UPPER VOICES CHOIR or CHILDREN’S CHOIR and can not have an adult with them, it is possible to apply for a slot in a camp counselor group. This means that the participants have a camp counselor employed by Side by Side who looks after and guides them during the camp. The camp counselors work during daytime only and children without an adult are therefore not allowed to spend the night at Side by Side but must be picked up and left every day in connection with the camp's scheduled activities. The number of places in the camp counselor groups is limited. For BEGINNERS 'ORCHESTRA and BEGINNERS' CHOIR, each child must have an accompanying adult they know who leaves and picks them up and is available by phone during the rehearsal on Sunday and Monday, and is on site with the child all Tuesday.
When participating in OPEN CHOIR, an adult must be present for those who need help with, for example, lunch or transfers.
For everyone's safety, we need to know who and how many are staying in the various locations. Therefore, we can not accept children and / or adults who have a connection to a participant, but do not have a place that is paid for and confirmed by us. If anyone wants to visit a participant during the camp, we suggest that the visit takes place between the various activities, and outdoors. Everyone is welcome to the various concerts, though tickets are needed in most cases. More information about this will be in the newsletter and on the website.
How do I sign up more than one person?
You can sign up up to 30 participants per booking for all tracks.
Some information is transferable from Person 1 to other participants. You can do this for each participant by clicking the pen icon in the to right corner. NB, see below when emailing (for info before the camp).
Person 1 becomes the main booker for the group, automatically receiving everyone's booking confirmation and becoming the invoice receiver (can be edited in the payment step). If you sign up as a group, Person 1 should be an adult.
How many slots are there?
We have a max number of participants for each track and section. When a section or track is full, this will show in the sign-up form. It will then be possible to sign up on a waiting list.
Should I sign up even if I'm just a visitor?
To participate in Side by Side, you need to sign up and pay the participation fee. In the sign-up form you choose "Non-playing/-singing accompanying adult". We have a lot of participants and for everyone's safety we need a complete overview over who and how many people are in the camp area. Therefore we cannot receive children and/or adults who are connected to a participant, but not registered and confirmed by us. If you want to visit a participant during the camp, we suggest this happens between camp activities. Everyone is also welcome to the different concerts of course. More information about those can be found in our newsletters and on the website.

Children under 13 years old who wish to come to Side by Side and do not have an accompanying adult may be able to attend a camp counselor group. That means that a Side by Side camp counselor will look after and guide them at camp.
Camp counselors only work day shifts so the child cannot spend the night at Side by Side but must be left and picked up every day in conjunction with the scheduled activities of the camp. Camp counselor groups are only available for the following tracks: UPPER INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA, INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA, BASIC ORCHESTRA, PRE-UPPER VOICES CHOIR and CHILDREN’S CHOIR. The number of available camp counselor group slots are limited.
For BEGINNERS' ORCHESTRA and BEGINNERS' CHOIR you must have an accompanying adult who you know that can leave and pick you up every day. They must be available on phone Sunday and Monday and must be on-site with you the whole of Tuesday.

As a music teacher in INTERMEDIATE or BASIC ORCHESTRA, you can tell us in the application form if you want to participate in the orchestra, as playing support.
Vilka uppgifter behöver jag för att göra en anmälan?
Till vissa spår krävs mer information för att
genomföra anmälan/ansökan tex:
Vad ingår i deltagaravgiften?
Alla deltagare får en Side by Side-kasse och årets Side by Side T-shirt.

For UPPER INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA, INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA, BASIC ORCHESTRA and CHILDREN'S CHOIR the children who arrive unaccompanied to the camp can choose the alternative "I have no one to take care of me during the camp and need help from the Kid Camp Counselors". The camp counselors work day shifts only and therefore we recommend daily drop-offs and pickups of the children for those who choose this alternative.
For BEGINNERS' ORCHESTRA, BEGINNERS' CHOIR and OPEN CHOIR all participants must be accompanied by an adult that they know during the whole camp. For all other tracks we want children below the age of 13 to have an adult they know on site.
