How to Apply to Side by Side 2024
The application for Side by Side looks different depending on which track you apply for. More information is available on the respective track page. Common to all tracks is the following:
- The application period is between 28 November 2023 and 24 January 2024
- We do not apply "first-come, first-served" but make a selection from among all those who applied during the application period
- You must be at least 16 years old to apply on your own, otherwise an adult must make the application
- Accompanying non-playing adults do not need to apply for a slot at the camp, but do need to be included in the accommodation number
- In the field Organization/Orchestra/Choir/Kulturskola, it is important that you use correct names. Please write the name of both your school of the arts if applicable and the orchestra/ensemble if you belong to one
- Applying to Side by Side 2024 is free. If you get a slot, you will receive an email with a link to the final booking, which includes a payment step
- If you want to change something in your application after you have submitted it, you can contact us at sidebyside@gso.se
The Side by Side Track Pyramid
Side by Side offers something for most people, but it is important that you choose the right track when you apply.
Here are tips on how to do that!
The track pyramid illustrates the age group and level for the tracks. It should be seen as a guide and not written in stone. If you're not sure which track to choose after looking through the repertoire, talking to your orchestra/choir director and reading through the track pages, contact sidebyside@gso.se and we will help you! This year's camp has seven orchestra tracks and five regular choir tracks. For participants who need special support, we offer the function track OPEN CHOIR (Swedish) and a special section for violin in the track BASIC ORCHESTRA called OPEN VIOLIN. NB! Choir/orchestra for BEGINNERS' rehearse and perform their concert together.
Which Track Should I Choose?
There are five factors that determine which track you should apply for on Side by Side.
- Experience
- Repertoire
- Age
- Interest
- Personal circumstances
Use the track pyramid to get a quick overview of the age and level of the different tracks. It is important that you talk to your instrument teacher/choir conductor about the repertoire to decide which track is right for you. More detailed information and repertoire can be found on the respective track page.
The track guidance icons on the track pages also help identify the right track for you. Read more about those further down this page.
Track Guide
In order for you to quickly get an overview of who can apply for the various tracks, we have produced a series of icons that describe who can join.
