WIND & STRING ORCHESTRA is mainly for high school youth. The orchestra plays symphony orchestra music as well as music meant for wind orchestras and string orchestras respectively. Here, you get to take on a bigger responsibility for your section and for how the sections work together. You play different kinds of repertoires and further your knowledge of orchestra work.

The track starts on Saturday June 15 and ends with Wind & String in Concert on Tuesday June 18 in the evening.

The application is personal. You must be at least 16 years old to apply on your own, otherwise an adult must make the application. All questions in the application form apply to you as a playing participant. The email address will be used primarily for contact and acceptance notification. If you are under 18 years of age, you must also enter the email address of a legal guardian. The acceptance notice will be sent to that address as well. The selection is based on the information you have provided about your orchestra experience and age.

Marjolein Vermeeren
Terje Skomedal
Marjolein has a double degree in flute and wind band conducting. She grew up in the southern Netherlands where there is a big tradition in wind band music, and she has worked a lot with youth orchestras. Marjolein is a flutist in the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and has attended Side by Side for several years as an instructor for the older participants. She has been a Side by Side conductor since 2020.
Terje is a violinist from Norway and since 2009 he is the first chair for Violin 2 in Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. He is also the concertmaster in BAGS, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra's ownbaroque ensemble. Terje has led WIND & STRING ORCHESTRA in their string orchestra repertoaire since Side by Side 2022.

No participation fee. To participate, you need access to a computer, mobile or surf pad, with camera, external audio source, microphone or handsfree, internet, and an email address. Expression of Interest closes April 15.

Participation fee 450 SEK per person. Selection is based on your age and experience. If you are offered a slot, you must answer YES and confirm it within the time frame stated in the notice. Late Expression of Interest closes April 15. Slots are filled continuously.

The selection will be made based on your experience and your age. If you are offered a slot, you must reply YES and confirm your participation within the time span given in the notice. The participation fee is 450 SEK per person.
The Expression of Interest submission process for Side by Side: Digital opens again on February 11. At that time you will also be able to express your interest for any slots still remaining for the on-site camp.

Marjolein is a flutist in the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and has attended Side by Side for several years as an instructor for the oldest participants.
Juan is a violin specialist from Venezuela and Artistic Director at Orquestra Geração, a Sistema programme in Portugal. He was selected as a Rising Star by the European Concert Hall Organization in the 2014/2015 season and has a Master's degree in Performance and Education at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. As a conductor Juan has participated in many international youth projects. He has also been a violin instructor at Side by Side for several years..

For you who have played for 5–7 years and are about 13-17 years old. You have quite a lot of orchestra experience and are well prepared on your music. Your camp starts Saturday June 13 and ends with a concert on Wednesday June 17.
For WIND & STRING ORCHESTRA you must apply for admission. The application is open November 11 – January 10. There are about 70 slots available for strings and 50 slots for woodwind, brass and percussion. Admission is based on your age and experience. Admission notice will be sent out by January 17, at the latest. The participation fee is 450 SEK. Please read through our SIGN-UP INFORMATION and TERMS & CONDITIONS before you apply.
