Activities
Fun outside of rehearsals
Jaerv & The OK Factor
Side by Side hosts award-winning folk music group Jaerv, who bring the acclaimed string duo The OK Factor, all the way from Minnesota. Together they meet all the orchestra participants in the camp. The younger participants are treated to a performance with lots of singing and merriment, and the older orchestras get to take part in an exclusive workshop about playing by ear.
Show for: Basic, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Wind & String Orchestra
Workshop for: Advanced and Pre-Advanced Orchestra
Ida On – New Inspirator
Say hello to Ida On, our new inspirator and camp buddy! Ida is the program host and musical artist who has become a familiar face to many children and young people in recent years through SVT productions such as “Sommarlov” and “Från Trakten”. Ida has also worked at the Gothenburg Opera and the Royal Swedish Opera, among others, and is an experienced emcee and scriptwriter.
In addition to happy and energetic dance lessons with the younger participants, Ida will have time to meet all the camp participants in some way during the camp days!
Danceoke!
A long-standing tradition for the camp's younger participants is to head off to Danceoke in the Concert Hall after all their intensive rehearsals. This year with Side by Side's new inspirator Ida On!
Activity for: Basic and Intemediate Orchestra as well as Children's and Pre-Upper Voices Choir
Swing Tarturo
The camp's own guerrilla orchestra and party band will return for new antics during this year's Side by Side! This time together with Ida On.
The orchestra will be at the Festival Concert and will also appear here and there during the camp.
FOLK: Workshop & Pop-Up
Our dear folk music friends Sten Källman, Johannes Bergil and Jenny Gustafsson are back at the camp to hold several wonderful workshops! Here, the participants will learn music by ear and the results will be performed during the Pop-Up Concert on Monday, June 16 at 3:15 PM at Götaplatsen. Expect a lot of fun!
Workshop for: Wind & String and Upper Intermediate Orchestra as well as Children's, Pre- Upper Voices and Upper Voices Choir
Yoga for Musicians
After intense days with lots of rehearsals, we let the oldest participants land and recharge their batteries before their final concert together with YogaLene; musician and yoga instructor Lene Skomedal – Yoga for Musicians.
Activity for: Advanced and Pre-Advanced Orchestra
Workshop for Orchestra
To take your music making to the next level, you need to get closer to the music and really understand it. The older orchestras will meet the legendary conductor Kim Phipps, who with his enormous experience as artistic director of Vägus and the summer opera at Läckö and conductor of the Swedish Chamber Choir provides an inspiring musical history deep-dive: "Who wrote the Mambo?!"
Workshop for: Advanced and Pre- Advanced Orchestra
Workshop for Choir
The Concert Hall's inspiring choirmaster Katie Thomas brings the house's own professional Vocal Ensemble for an inspiring workshop and to sing together. Katie is the conductor of Gothenburg Symphony Vocal Ensemble and is frequently hired internationally as a conductor, singer and inspirer. The workshop provides in-depth insight into what it is like to sing in a choir.
Workshop for: Youth and Upper Voices Choir
